India Design Council along with British Council in India takes great pleasure in inviting you to the first workshop of India – UK Design Education Workshop Series. The topic of deliberation for the first workshop is “Future of Design Education”.

For the first workshop we would joined by leading academics from well known universities from UK under the leadership of Anne Boddington, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, University of Brighton and Trustee, Design Council UK.

We invite design faculty from all across the country along with design professionals interested in design education, to this immersive design dialogue. This two-day intensive program is the beginning of a journey towards collaborative brainstorming to shape design education.

The Future of Design Education in India Report was published recently on November 08, 2016 at the hands of Mr. Jo Johnson, UK Minister for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation. British Council in India and the India Design Council prepared the report.

The report envisages a strategic relationship between the India and UK Design Education sector to advance and lead the design pedagogy in the context of unfolding future. The need for better design educators is an imperative for both the countries and as such has been identified as a key opportunity area to work on.

The Workshop Series

A three part workshop series has been identified as a plan of action. Each of the workshops will be independent of other and yet synchronized. Each workshop will set a topic of enquiry and deliberate upon it with the sharing of experiences and ideas.

The First Workshop

The first workshop of the series is planned at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad on May 05 and 06, 2017.

The workshop would provide an interactive platform where all the faculty members would participate in open deliberations and provide constructive feedbacks to help one another craft their way through to identity the possible new directions design education must embark on by reevaluating old methods and their relevance in changing times today. The format will be:

Welcome Session – formal opening of the workshop. Keynote remarks.

Presentation Sessions – there will be 3 presentation sessions of 2 hrs. each on each day. In the presentation session each of the presenter will present for 10 mins. There will be 5 presentations in each session. The presentations will set the context and put forth ideas vis-à-vis the session theme.

Discussions in each session - The remaining 45 minutes will be for discussion involving all attendees. The last 25 minutes will be for summarizing the discussion.

Participant interested in presenting will have to send in the synopsis of the presentation in a given format for inclusion in the program. The submissions will be evaluated for the coherence with the workshop objective. We will have 30 slots leaving ample room for wider inclusion.
